Microsclerotherapy at 101 Harley street, Marylebone, London

Thread veins are small clusters of red or blue veins. They appear on the legs and are also known as spider or broken veins. Lots of factors contribute to their formation including ageing, hormonal changes, alcohol and smoking.

Microsclerotherapy (thread vein removal) is an evidence-based procedure for the effective treatment of leg thread veins (it can also be used on the body as long as the veins are below the heart). A solution is injected into the thread veins using a very fine needle. This causes the vein’s wall to swell and in turn, stops blood flow in the vessel. The vein then disappears.

Consultation

The first step on your journey is a consultation at our aesthetics clinic. We take the time to discuss your symptoms, explain how the treatment works, and answer any questions you may have. Together, we’ll identify the areas most affected and design a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Treatment

Our Microsclerotherapy treatments effectively target and reduce the appearance of small thread veins on the legs. Using precise microinjections, a specialised solution is introduced into the affected veins, causing them to safely collapse and fade over time. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and designed to restore smoother, clearer skin with minimal downtime.

Results

You’ll notice a visible improvement as treated veins gradually fade over the following weeks, revealing clearer and more even-toned skin. Results continue to refine as the body naturally absorbs the treated vessels. Individual results may vary, and your practitioner will advise on any follow-up sessions to maintain optimal, long-lasting results.

Your Microsclerotherapy Questions Answered

If you still have questions about Microsclerotherapy, or would like to speak to a member of the team. You can contact us by; Phone, Email, WhatsApp and WebForm. It is our upmost priority that during your stay at 101 Harley Street, whether in our surgical or non surgical clinic, you feel safe, relaxed, and comfortable, so please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our highly trained team should you require anything.

Ask us a question
What does the thread vein removal treatment involve?

We’ll inject a concentrated salt-water solution into the veins with a very fine needle. This causes the vein’s wall to swell and in turn, stops blood flow in the vessel. The vein then disappears.

Does thread vein removal hurt?

The actual procedure is relatively pain free. You may have some aching in the treated area for the first few days but it’s easily relieved by a simple analgesic or gentle walking.

How long do the results last?

The effects of our thread vein removal in London are usually permanent, although it’s possible for thread veins to form as they may have anyway at a later stage. It usually takes 6 to 8 weeks for optimum results and you may need more than 1 treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

You’ll usually be with us for 30 to 45 minutes and you may need several treatments.

How do I care for the area after treatment?

You’ll need to wear a compression stocking for 3 days following the procedure and on any long haul flights. Avoid strenuous exercise, very hot baths and saunas for at least 72 hours after the treatment.

Is thread vein removal safe?

Microsclerotherapy is a very safe procedure. In some rare cases, there’s a reaction to the injection resulting in slight bruising and small ulcers.

*Individual results may vary.

Microsclerotherapy Aftercare and Recovery at L’Atelier Aesthetics

Following microsclerotherapy (thread vein removal) at L’Atelier Aesthetics in Harley Street, most patients can return to normal activities immediately with minimal downtime. Mild stinging, aching, redness, swelling and bruising can occur, and bruising may persist for several weeks. The treated veins fade gradually, with the full effect typically visible within 12 weeks. To optimise results and support recovery, it is essential to wear compression as advised and avoid heat and strenuous activity for the first few days.

Microsclerotherapy Aftercare Treatment Advice

Microsclerotherapy is an evidence-based treatment designed to reduce small thread or spider veins on the legs (and in some cases other body areas where veins are below the heart). A specialised solution is injected into the affected veins using a very fine needle, causing the vein walls to swell and close so that the vessel gradually fades over time.

Microsclerotherapy Pre-Treatment Guidance

To prepare for your microsclerotherapy appointment:

  • Attend your consultation as planned so we can assess suitability and agree a treatment plan.
  • Let your practitioner know if you have any history of clotting problems, previous vein procedures, allergies, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day, and bring your compression stockings if you have been advised to do so.
  • Plan your schedule so you can avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths and saunas for the first 72 hours after treatment.

During your visit:

  • Your appointment typically includes a consultation and assessment, and treatment time is usually 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Precise microinjections are used to target thread veins, aiming for clearer, more even-toned skin over the following weeks.

What to Expect Immediately After Microsclerotherapy

Microsclerotherapy has minimal downtime, but it is common to experience:

  • Mild stinging or tenderness at injection sites
  • Aching in the treated area for the first few days
  • Redness or slight swelling
  • Bruising, which can last anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks

Aching is usually easily relieved by gentle walking or simple pain relief, if suitable for you. In rare cases, patients may experience a reaction to the injection with more noticeable bruising or small ulcers.

Microsclerotherapy Post-Treatment Care

Compression and circulation:

  • Wear a compression stocking for 3 days following the procedure.
  • Wear compression on any long-haul flights after treatment, as advised by your practitioner.
  • Keep moving gently. Walking can help support circulation and comfort.

For the first 72 hours:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 72 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid very hot baths for at least 72 hours.
  • Avoid saunas and steam rooms for at least 72 hours.

General care:

  • Treat the area gently and avoid rubbing or scratching if it feels sensitive.
  • If you develop bruising, this is expected and should gradually settle. Results can look better week by week as the body absorbs the treated vessels.

When Will I See Results from Microsclerotherapy?

Microsclerotherapy results develop gradually.

  • Treated veins typically fade over the following weeks
  • Results continue to refine as the body absorbs the treated vessels
  • The full effect is usually visible within 12 weeks
  • Results are often long-lasting, although new thread veins can form over time and some patients benefit from more than one session

Your practitioner will advise on the most appropriate treatment course for your veins and goals.

Who Should Not Have Microsclerotherapy?

Microsclerotherapy may not be suitable for everyone. Suitability is confirmed during consultation and assessment, particularly if you have:

  • A history of significant clotting issues or certain vascular conditions
  • An allergy to sclerosing agents
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Significant underlying vein disease requiring alternative management

If you are unsure, our team will guide you through the safest options at your appointment.

When to Contact Us

Microsclerotherapy is generally very safe when performed by experienced medical professionals. Please contact L’Atelier Aesthetics if you experience:

  • Increasing pain, swelling or redness that is getting worse rather than settling
  • Blistering, skin breakdown or ulceration
  • Any reaction that feels unusual or concerning

Our Harley Street team is always available to support you following your treatment.
