After Julaine, it is normal to notice small bumps, mild redness or tenderness at the injection sites for 24 to 72 hours. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and extreme heat for 48 hours. Results build gradually over six to twelve weeks as collagen production is stimulated.
Julaine is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen biostimulator delivered via a series of small injections, typically across the cheeks, temples and jawline. Because the product is injected into the deeper layers of the skin, it is normal to feel some pressure or tenderness during the appointment itself.
Once the treatment is complete, most patients notice:
These responses are expected and are not a sign that anything has gone wrong. The bumps in particular can feel more pronounced than they look, and they settle as the dilution fluid is absorbed – usually within 24 to 72 hours.
Julaine has a well-established safety profile when administered by a qualified practitioner. The most common side effects – bruising, swelling, redness and temporary bumps – are mild and resolve without intervention within a few days.
Less commonly, patients may experience:

Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Use clean hands and a light moisturiser if preferred. | Strenuous exercise for 48 hours. Raised blood pressure can increase bruising and swelling. |
Keep the skin clean and well hydrated. | Alcohol for 24 to 48 hours, as it can worsen bruising. |
Apply a cool compress (wrapped in a cloth) if swelling is uncomfortable. | Saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and sunbeds for 48 hours. |
Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first night if swelling is noticeable. | Facials, microneedling or any other skin treatment for at least two weeks. |
Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher when outdoors. | Applying pressure to the face, such as sleeping face-down, for the first 48 hours. |
Attend any follow-up appointments as planned. | Touching the treated area other than during the prescribed massage routine. |
Julaine works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production, which means results are gradual rather than immediate. Most patients begin to see a noticeable improvement in skin quality and volume from around six weeks, with full results typically visible at three months. For detailed information on what to expect at each stage, visit our Julaine treatment page.
It is best to avoid makeup for the first 12 hours after treatment to reduce the risk of introducing bacteria to the injection sites. After that, mineral or non-comedogenic products can be used carefully. Avoid applying heavy pressure to the face when removing makeup for the first few days.
Avoid strenuous exercise – anything that significantly raises your heart rate or causes sweating – for 48 hours. Light walking is fine. Exercise increases blood flow, which can worsen bruising and swelling in the short term. After 48 hours, you can return to your normal routine.
Mild swelling is normal for the first 24 to 72 hours. Some patients experience a slightly fuller appearance for up to a week, particularly if they are prone to swelling after injectables. If swelling has not improved after 10 days or seems to be worsening, contact the clinic.
Paracetamol is safe to take if you find the treatment area uncomfortable. Avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for 24 hours after treatment unless prescribed by a doctor, as they can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising. If you take regular blood-thinning medication, discuss this with Dr Brennand before your appointment.
