Morpheus8 has been the best-known radiofrequency microneedling device in the UK for several years, and the market around it has moved considerably. New competing devices have launched, the clinical approach to Morpheus8 has been refined, and the treatment delivered at L’Atelier Aesthetics in 2026 is meaningfully better than the one used in 2022.
The question patients ask most often is whether it is still worth choosing over newer alternatives. The clinical answer is yes – for the right patient and the right concern. This guide sets out what has changed, who Morpheus8 still suits best, and when a different treatment is the stronger recommendation.
For patients with texture concerns, acne scarring or early to moderate laxity along the lower face, Morpheus8 remains a well-evidenced, consistently effective treatment. Its depth of penetration, the needle design that protects the skin surface during treatment, and the volume of published clinical data behind it keep it ahead of most competing devices for this category of work.
For patients who want a tightening result with no downtime at all, Sofwave is the more appropriate recommendation. Both are worth considering. The right choice depends on the presenting skin and the primary concern.

Three meaningful developments have occurred over the last three years.
First, the available tip options have expanded, allowing more precise calibration to different areas and concerns within a single treatment session. Second, the clinical approach has evolved. Treatment is now delivered at varying depths within the same session – deeper along the jawline for tightening, shallower across the cheeks and upper lip for texture and fine lines – producing a more complete result in a single visit. Third, the competing device landscape has matured, and while the gap has narrowed, Morpheus8 retains its advantage for deeper laxity and scarring work.
What has not changed is the fundamental mechanism. Heat is delivered precisely into the skin through fine needles, triggering a firming response and new collagen formation over the following three months. The refinement is in how that energy is applied.

Morpheus8 is most appropriate for patients in their mid-thirties to mid-fifties presenting with a combination of texture and laxity concerns. Typical presentations include early jowling, softening along the jawline, acne scarring, crepey texture and enlarged pores. Because the coated needles protect the skin surface from heat during treatment, Morpheus8 is generally safe across all skin tones, with settings adjusted individually at each session.
Morpheus8 is not appropriate for:
Patients who are pregnant
Patients with active cystic acne
Patients with a pacemaker or implanted electronic device
Patients within six months of completing isotretinoin
Active skin infection in the treatment area
It is also not a volume treatment. Where the primary concern is hollowing or volume loss rather than texture or laxity, a different approach will be recommended at consultation.
Treating at different depths in one session. Rather than treating the entire face at a uniform depth, the approach now commonly involves going deeper along the jawline and neck for tightening and shallower across the cheeks and upper lip for texture. This produces a more complete result in a single visit without requiring separate treatments for different concerns.
Preparation and aftercare. Refinements to the numbing protocol and post-treatment skincare guidance mean redness settles more quickly than it did at the treatment’s launch. Most patients are comfortable returning to makeup on day two rather than day three.
Combination treatment plans. Morpheus8 paired with Julaine has become the standard plan at the clinic for patients with both texture and general loss of skin firmness. The approach is to begin the Morpheus8 course, introduce Julaine at week four or six, and allow both treatments to build their effect over three months. For patients who also present with dull or dehydrated skin, adding Profhilo to the plan produces a more complete overall result.

Most patients notice visible improvement by the second session. The full result is typically apparent at around three months after the final session, as new collagen matures fully. Results last 12 to 18 months, with a single annual maintenance session sufficient to sustain the benefit. Patients who combine Morpheus8 with a collagen-stimulating injectable plan frequently extend their results to 18 to 24 months.
“My position in 2026 is that Morpheus8 is still the device I reach for first when texture, scarring or lower-face laxity are part of the picture. The refinement in how we use it over the last three years has made it a noticeably stronger treatment than it was at launch. For patients wanting a tightening-only result with no downtime, Sofwave is the better recommendation. Both are worth it. The choice depends on the skin and the concern.”

Yes. Morpheus8 remains our first-choice radiofrequency microneedling device for patients with texture concerns, acne scarring or early to moderate lower-face laxity. The way we use it has been refined significantly over the last three years, making it a stronger and more comfortable treatment than when it launched.
Downtime is 24 to 48 hours of redness. A faint grid pattern may be visible where the needles contacted the skin. Most patients are comfortable back in light makeup the next day.
Most patients need three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Deeper scarring or more advanced laxity occasionally needs a fourth. Dr Brennand confirms the number at consultation.
Most patients describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful. A numbing cream is applied for 30 to 45 minutes before treatment. The deeper work along the jawline is the most intense part, and some warmth persists for a few hours afterwards.
Yes. The coated needles protect the skin surface from heat, which makes Morpheus8 safe across all skin tones. Settings are adjusted for each patient’s skin type and Dr Brennand confirms suitability at consultation.
Morpheus8 is priced per session and per course. A three-session course on a single area is usually the best value. Pricing is discussed openly at consultation.
