Ignite RF results develop over time. You may notice some tightening soon after treatment, but changes in firmness, contour and skin quality can continue to appear over the following weeks and months as new collagen develops. How long the results last will vary from person to person, depending on factors such as your age, skin quality and the area treated.

So, when should you expect to see a difference? Here’s what the Ignite RF before-and-after journey can look like, from the first few days through to your longer-term results.

When can you first see results from Ignite RF?

You may notice some initial tightening soon after Ignite RF, but it takes longer for the full result to develop.

This is because there are two stages to the treatment. First, the radiofrequency energy creates an immediate response within the tissue. Afterwards, it encourages your skin to produce and remodel collagen, which happens much more gradually.

As the weeks pass, you may start to notice firmer skin, better definition and an improvement in overall skin quality. However, everyone responds differently. Your starting skin quality, age and the area being treated will all affect how quickly your results become visible.

For this reason, try not to judge your final result immediately after your appointment. Your skin still has plenty of changing to do.

What is the Ignite RF results timeline?

There is no exact Ignite RF results timeline that applies to everyone. However, there are some general stages you can expect as your skin settles and collagen remodelling gets underway.

Exactly what changes will be most noticeable depends on what you wanted to address in the first place.

For example, some patients choose Ignite RF because they want generally firmer, tighter-looking skin. Others are particularly concerned about laxity around the jawline and lower face.

If jowls are your main concern, improving skin laxity may help to create a firmer-looking lower face. Patients also often ask whether tightening can improve nasolabial folds or marionette lines, which run downwards from the corners of the mouth.

Here, it is important to look at what is actually causing the lines. Laxity can play a part, but volume loss can too. Ignite RF tightens rather than replaces lost volume, so it is not a direct alternative to dermal filler. Dr Duncan Brennand can assess this during your consultation and explain which approach is most likely to suit your face.

Time after treatment What you may notice

Immediately afterwards

The area may look slightly red or swollen and feel warm or tight. You might notice some early firmness, but this is not your final result.

First week

Redness, tenderness or swelling should begin to settle. Your skin is recovering, while the longer-term collagen response is only beginning.

Weeks 2 to 6

Changes in firmness and skin quality may become easier to see as collagen remodelling progresses.

Months 2 to 3

Tightening and improvements in contour may become more noticeable as the tissue continues to remodel.

Longer term

Collagen remodelling can continue beyond the first few months, so your results may keep developing gradually.

Why do Ignite RF results continue to improve?

Ignite RF results can continue developing because the treatment doesn’t rely solely on what happens during your appointment. It also encourages changes within your skin afterwards.

Ignite RF uses controlled radiofrequency energy to heat targeted tissue beneath the skin. This stimulates a natural healing response and encourages collagen remodelling.

Collagen is one of the proteins responsible for giving skin its structure and firmness. However, producing and reorganising collagen takes time. Your skin continues this process long after you have left the clinic.

That is why the difference between your before-and-after photos may become clearer over the following weeks and months. Ignite RF essentially starts the process during treatment, then your body continues the work.

How long do Ignite RF results last?

There isn’t one set answer to how long Ignite RF results last. Your results will depend on your skin, the area treated and how your skin naturally changes over time.

Age and starting skin quality both matter. Someone with early skin laxity may respond differently from someone treating more established changes.

Lifestyle also plays a role. Smoking and repeated sun exposure, for example, can contribute to collagen breakdown and accelerate skin ageing. Looking after your skin and wearing daily SPF can help to protect its overall quality.

Most importantly, natural ageing continues after Ignite RF. The treatment can tighten and improve the skin you have now, but it cannot freeze it in time.

It is therefore better to think of the results as a lasting improvement that may need maintaining, rather than a permanent change. Dr Brennand can advise whether future maintenance would be worthwhile based on how your skin responds.

How many Ignite RF treatments will I need?

There is no fixed number of Ignite RF treatments that everyone needs.

The right plan depends on your starting point, the area you want to treat and how much change you hope to achieve. Some patients may need a different approach from others, which is why treatment is planned following a consultation rather than prescribed as a standard course.

It is also worth remembering that the newest or most powerful-sounding technology isn’t automatically the right one for every concern.

At L’Atelier Aesthetics, Dr Brennand will assess your skin first and recommend the option that makes most sense for you. Where texture or acne scarring is a bigger concern, for example, a treatment such as Morpheus8 may also be worth discussing.

Treating pigmentation without understanding what is causing it can lead to disappointing results and, in some cases, worsen the condition.

What is Ignite RF recovery like?

You can expect some temporary redness, warmth, tenderness or swelling after Ignite RF. How noticeable this is, and how quickly it settles, will depend on the area treated and your individual treatment.

Your clinical team will talk you through what to expect before treatment and give you personalised aftercare advice afterwards.

The main thing to remember is that recovery and results are two different timelines. Your skin may look settled on the surface before the collagen remodelling underneath has finished.

Equally, any early swelling can temporarily affect the appearance of the treated area. Give your skin time to settle before deciding what you think of the result.

If anything during your Ignite RF recovery concerns you, contact the clinic rather than waiting for your next appointment.

How should you read Ignite RF before-and-after photos?

The best Ignite RF before-and-after photos use the same lighting, angle and facial expression and clearly state how much time has passed between the two images.

That might sound obvious, but small differences can have a surprisingly big effect.

Lighting can change the appearance of shadows, texture and definition. A slightly different head angle can make a jawline look sharper, while facial expression can alter the appearance of folds and laxity.

Timing is particularly important with Ignite RF. Because results develop gradually, a photograph taken shortly after treatment tells you something very different from one taken after collagen remodelling has had time to progress.

So, when looking at before-and-after images, don’t just ask whether you can see a difference. Check when the second photograph was taken and whether you are genuinely looking at a like-for-like comparison.

Good clinical photography should help you understand what a treatment can realistically achieve, rather than make the result look as dramatic as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions about ignite RF

Are Ignite RF results immediate?

You may notice some early firmness or tightening after Ignite RF, but the full result is not immediate. Changes continue to develop as your skin produces and remodels collagen over the following weeks and months.

What does melasma look like?

Melasma typically appears as symmetrical patches of brown or grey-brown pigmentation across the cheeks, forehead, bridge of the nose or upper lip. Unlike isolated sun spots, the edges are often less defined and the pigmentation tends to cover larger areas of skin.

When do Ignite RF results peak?

There is no exact peak point that applies to everyone. Results become more apparent as collagen remodelling progresses, and your skin may continue to change for several months after treatment.

How long do Ignite RF results last?

There is no universal duration. Your age, skin quality, treatment area, lifestyle and natural ageing can all affect how long your results remain visible. Maintenance may be appropriate for some patients.

Is Ignite RF permanent?

No. Ignite RF can create a lasting improvement in skin firmness and quality, but it cannot stop natural ageing. Your skin will continue to change over time.

How long is the downtime after Ignite RF?

Recovery varies between patients and treatment areas. You may experience temporary redness, warmth, tenderness or swelling afterwards. Your clinical team will explain what to expect based on your treatment plan.

How many Ignite RF treatments might I need?

This depends on your skin, treatment area and goals. Rather than recommending the same number of sessions to everyone, Dr Brennand will assess your skin and advise what is appropriate for you during consultation.

Can Ignite RF results continue improving after treatment?

Yes. Ignite RF triggers collagen remodelling, which continues after your appointment. As this process develops, you may notice further changes in firmness, contour and skin quality over the following weeks and months.

When should you judge your final Ignite RF results?

The most important thing to remember about Ignite RF before and after is that the result you see immediately after treatment isn’t the finished one.

Give any early redness or swelling time to settle, then allow the longer collagen remodelling process to take place. Your results should always be judged against your own starting point, rather than someone else’s before-and-after photograph.

If you’re considering Ignite RF, a consultation with Dr Duncan Brennand at L’Atelier Aesthetics is the best place to start. He can assess your skin, explain what Ignite RF could realistically achieve for you and talk you through the likely results and recovery before you decide whether to go ahead.
