Profhilo is our most-booked treatment, and for patients coming to it for the first time, the experience itself is often the unknown part. Below is a clear walk-through of what a Profhilo appointment at L’Atelier Aesthetics actually involves, from consultation through to the weeks afterwards. It is the answer to what should I expect, in more detail than most clinics offer.
A Profhilo appointment starts with a consultation with Dr Brennand, followed on the same day or at a later date by a short injection session. A full course is two sessions four weeks apart. Downtime is minimal: small injection bumps for up to 24 hours and occasional light bruising. The skin quality improvement builds over six to eight weeks after the second session.

Profhilo is a high-concentration skin booster that, once injected, spreads through the surrounding tissue rather than sitting in one spot. This means five injection points on each side of the face can improve a much wider area over the following weeks. The immediate effect is improved hydration and a visible glow, appearing within one to two weeks. The firming and skin quality improvement follows over the next four to six weeks, reaching its best around two months after the second session. Results last six to nine months, with a single maintenance session every six months keeping the benefit going.

Profhilo suits most patients in their mid-thirties and older with concerns about skin quality, hydration, firmness or crepey texture. It is a good first treatment for patients new to injectables because it does not change the shape of the face. It works on the neck, decolletage and hands as well as the face, and is also well suited to patients noticing early softening along the jawline.
Profhilo is not the right choice for patients wanting a volume change in a specific area, such as a hollow under the eye or thin lips. That is a filler conversation. It is also not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for patients with certain autoimmune conditions, or over active skin infection.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Before the appointment | Avoid blood-thinning supplements and non-essential anti-inflammatories for one week. Skip alcohol for 24 hours. Arrive with a clean face. |
| The consultation | Around 30 minutes with Dr Brennand. He reviews your medical and skin history, assesses your face in natural light, and proposes a plan. Treatment can often be carried out the same day. |
| The injection | Ten to fourteen minutes in total. Five specific points on each side of the face. Most patients describe each point as a brief sting that settles within seconds. |
| Immediately after | Five small raised bumps on each side, settling within 24 hours. Makeup can go back on the following morning. Most patients return to work the same day or the next. |
| Weeks 1 to 2 | Hydration and an early glow appear. |
| Weeks 4 onwards | Firming and skin quality improvement builds, with the full result showing around two months after the second session. |
| Second session | Four weeks after the first, following the same process without the full consultation. |
For 24 hours after Profhilo: avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and swimming. Do not massage the injection points. Avoid makeup on the injection sites for the first evening. For 48 hours: skip active skincare such as retinol or exfoliating acids. For a week: apply sunscreen consistently and avoid strong direct sun on the treated area. Any bruising clears within three to five days.

“Profhilo is the treatment I recommend most often to first-time patients because it does what almost everyone wants from aesthetic medicine: it makes the skin look like a better-rested version of itself, without changing the face. Done properly, a two-session course produces a visibly better-quality skin that lasts the better part of a year.”

Dr Brennand will confirm whether it is the right fit at consultation. Our clinic is at 101 Harley Street, London W1G 6AH, a short walk from Bond Street and Oxford Circus.
