Dermal Filler Pre-Treatment Guidance

To prepare for your dermal filler appointment in London:

• Arrive with clean skin and avoid applying skincare products or make-up after cleansing.
  
• Let your practitioner know if you are prone to cold sores, have active skin irritation, infection, or broken skin in the treatment area.
  
• Inform your practitioner about any medical conditions, allergies, or medications, including blood-thinning medication or supplements.
  
• If you have an important event coming up, plan treatment in advance as bruising can occur. 

During your visit:

• Clinical photographs and consent will be completed if not already done.
  
• The skin will be cleansed and your bespoke plan confirmed.
  
• Numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be used for comfort.
  
• Procedure time is typically 30 to 45 minutes, plus time for numbing if required. 

What to Expect Immediately After Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers have minimal downtime. You may experience:

• Mild redness or swelling at the injection sites
  
• Tenderness or a feeling of tightness in the treated area
  
• Minor bruising, which can take a day or two to become more noticeable 

These effects are usually short-lived. Swelling and redness typically subside soon after treatment, and bruising generally improves over the following days.

Dermal Filler Post-Treatment Care

For the first 12 hours:

• Do not wear make-up for 12 hours after your treatment. 

For the first 24 to 48 hours:

• Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area unless your practitioner advises otherwise.
  
• Avoid heat and anything that can increase swelling. 

Until any swelling or redness has settled:

• Avoid sun beds, saunas, steam rooms, and extreme temperatures. 

General recovery tips:

• If you experience swelling, a cool compress can be applied gently and intermittently.
  
• If bruising occurs, it will usually settle naturally over the next few days. Some patients find arnica helpful.
  
• Keep skincare simple and gentle until the skin feels calm again. 

When Will I See Results from Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers provide immediate results, but the final look settles as swelling reduces.

• You will see a result straight away.
  
• The treated area typically refines over the first several days.
  
• Your outcome is best reviewed once swelling has fully resolved, often around 2 weeks. 

Longevity varies by area and product, but dermal fillers commonly last 9 to 18 months.

Who Should Not Have Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers may not be suitable if you have:

• Active infection, cold sores, or inflamed or broken skin in the treatment area
  
• Certain medical conditions or medications that increase risk
  
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
