Choosing your lip fillers practitioner

Lip fillers are booming with popularity in 2019. With it being the word on everyone’s lips and their widespread acceptance as a fast and effective aesthetic treatment, the chances of you or someone you may know that has considered them are high. However, with such a popular trend there are questions that you need to ask yourself before considering lip fillers such as how to ensure your safety when undergoing lip filler treatment? Here’s why  choosing a medical professional is important.

Lip Fillers in the UK

As it stands in the United Kingdom, it is possible for anyone to perform lip fillers, but this doesn’t mean they should do so. Legislation states that performing Botox using Botulinum Toxin is prohibited, because this requires prescription only used for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes only. However, this doesn’t mean dermal fillers are prescription based which means anyone can perform this treatment and although this may be the case, it certainly isn’t worth taking the risk.

What questions can I ask?

Prior to your treatment, the consultation stage is the most important time during your lip filler journey because this is where you can question the professionalism of your practitioner and whether they seem trustworthy and has made the effort to ensure you of your safety. Ensure to find the answers you need before committing to the treatment in terms of the aftercare procedure and how your practitioner will support should any complications arise.

Before and After photos

It is advisable to view their portfolio of their before and after catalogue so you can see the work they have done in the past and what you can expect to see pre and post treatment and to take note of any marks and swelling you notice within those pictures.

There will be some side effects

If you were expecting to read that dermal fillers come with no side effects, then unfortunately this isn’t the case. However, the side effects are entirely normal and do subside fairly quickly. You may experience some mild swelling and redness during the treatment although typically this should subside within 2-3 days after your treatment. Mild bruising is also common at the injection points; however, this should also only last a few days post treatment. Your practitioner should explain what to avoid like alcohol post treatment so do look out for any advice they mention.

Your results aren’t permanent

Should you not be happy with your results post treatment, fear not as dermal filler results are not permanent. Temporary lip fillers are naturally broken down and dissolved by your body over the period of around 6 months and your practitioner should go into detail about what you can do.

Here at L’atelier our aesthetic clinic in Mayfair, we believe in taking a new and more informed approach to anti-ageing treatments and services. During your treatment you will be with us for roughly an hour which gives us time for the correct consultation and to answer any questions you might have.
