Why Try Microneedling?

  • Blogs

Known to help improve the appearance of scars, boost the skin’s collagen and elastin levels and even encourage hair growth, microneedling in Mayfair is a non-invasive treatment that can help plump and rejuvenate your skin, while adding radiance.

How does microneedling work?

The treatment involves a derma roller, which uses a series of micro-fine needles, with each between 0.5 and 2.5mm in thickness, to prick the skin at the surface level. This creates tiny holes that encourage the skin to regenerate and repair, forming new tissue and collagen, and leaving the skin looking smoother and firmer.

Who would benefit from microneedling?

Microneedling is credited with improving the skin’s appearance and texture and has even been linked to improving cellulite, stretch marks and sagging skin. Most people will experience benefits from the treatment, but it’s not recommended for those with skin concerns such as eczema or psoriasis. It can give similar results to laser treatments, which makes it a good option for those with darker skin tones.

What happens during treatment?

The treatment usually takes around 20 minutes and isn’t generally painful due to the small needle size, though it can feel uncomfortable. As well as your face, you can treat other areas of your body if desired – such as those with stretch marks or sun damage. At L’Atelier Aesthetics, Harley Street, Mayfair, we use precision-engineered electronic medical advice that uses thousands of microneedle columns to prick the skin.

Microneedling effectively kickstarts the skin’s healing process through the production of collagen and tissue. As everyone’s skin is different – and factors such as age, skin type and treated areas need to be taken into account – there’s no set time frame for how long results will last or how quickly they’ll appear. However, our practitioners will take all this into account during your treatment and can advise you on what results could look like for you.

We’ll also be able to advise on how many sessions you might need, as the course of treatment itself varies, with around 4-6 sessions usually required over several months to achieve the desired results. The effects are temporary and can be boosted through a good skincare regime.

Are there any side effects?

Your skin may appear slightly red and irritated for a few days after treatment, but as microneedling is minimally invasive, there’s no real downtime. You’ll generally need a few sessions to get the desired results, but it’s worth remembering that having too many sessions close together can lead to broken capillaries, so ensure your skin has time to recover between treatments.
