Skin is a fabulously complex, ever-changing organ that protects us from the elements and helps control our body temperature. It reflects our age, health, diet and even our mood. Understanding your skin type is essential to caring for skin in the right way for optimum results.
At L’Atelier, we carry out an in-depth assessment to evaluate skin type for all our clients. This enables us to predict potential problems and take action to prevent them from happening, recommend the most appropriate skincare products and treat skin conditions quickly and effectively.
You can discover how skin typing could affect your skincare routine by visiting bespoke skincare.

The different skin types
Many clients are uncertain of their skin type. This is perfectly understandable as skin type can be described in the most simple of terms (normal, dry, oily) to the very complex. At L’Atelier, we take a problem-solving approach to determining skin type using the following independent parameters:
Is skin dry or oily?
Is skin sensitive?
Is skin prone to pigmentation?
Are there signs of premature ageing?
We answer these questions comprehensively by using:
A clinically-validated questionnaire which we’ll go through during your first visit
Quantitative and visual analysis with Visia facial analysis. This technology also allows us to monitor progress to optimise results
We can also use genetic testing to enhance our skin-type analysis further still
Establishing your skin type and treating it accordingly is essential to caring for your skin. Skin type can be a confusing issue and there’s lots of conflicting advice. We use proven diagnostic methods to effectively determine your skin type. Our experience and expertise then enables us to recommend the right treatments and products for you.
What is bespoke skincare?
The L’Atelier bespoke skincare service has been developed to help our clients really understand their skin and its needs. We carry out an in-depth assessment and then use the insight and knowledge gained to develop a bespoke skincare programme. This helps improve skin’s natural beauty while maximising the results of any aesthetic treatments.
What is Visia facial analysis?
This advanced technology uses live image overlay to capture images of your face and skin to identify areas of sun damage, pigmentation, wrinkles, rosacea, enlarged pores and uneven texture.
*Individual results may vary.
What is genetic testing?
This advanced diagnostic test helps determine how your skin will age and how to prevent this through assessing your DNA. We’ve partnered with SkinDNA (a leading Australian pharmaco genomics company) to provide this revolutionary approach to skincare at L’Atelier. Your DNA is obtained via a simple swab on the inside of your cheek. Comprehensive testing results in a personalised report with skincare recommendations based on what your DNA has revealed about your skin.
How long does skin typing take?
It takes around 30 minutes including collating results and making recommendations.
Is the consultation and assessment a one-off?
Skin is constantly changing and evolving. At L’Atelier, we continually assess your skin to ensure we’re keeping up with its changing needs.
*Individual results may vary.
