Microneedling explained

This treatment is a way to enhance your appearance by creating tiny perforations in the skin that aid rejuvenation and cell renewal. Treatment also helps to boost the production of key skin proteins like collagen and elastin, which keep skin supple and youthful. Microneedling is carried out with a series of tiny needles that are either rolled or stamped onto the skin.

Benefits of Microneedling

Our clients love microneedling treatment here in Harley Street, as it can help with so many skin complaints: signs of ageing, acne scarring, dullness and more. The treatment is carried out quickly and effectively and you can have follow-up sessions if needed.

Microneedling Suitability

Most people are able to have microneedling treatment. To ensure it’s right for you, we carry out an assessment during our personalised consultation. We get to know your skin better, understand your goals and answer your questions and queries. It’s then over to the treatment, which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to around 1 hour, depending on your needs.

Drawbacks of Microneedling

While we don’t believe this treatment comes with drawbacks, there are other things you can try to target some of your skin complaints. For example, you might want to target lines and wrinkles through a treatment like dermal filler, or you might want to ‘resurface’ your skin through chemical peels, which can also address scarring and other issues.

Side-effects of Microneedling

You may see the tiny perforations made in the skin, which encourage the renewal process. Any side effects are usually short-lived, typically going away without any treatment and serious side effects are extremely rare. The most common side effects are the following:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Skin Flaking

If you’re suffering from an active skin condition, such as acne, then microneedling wouldn’t be suitable for you. If you have sensitive skin then you may suffer from more of a “reaction” from microneedling, any “reactions” are typically short-lived and not serious.
