How to treat varicose veins

Varicose veins are unsightly, itchy and painful. If you’re a sufferer, little wonder you’re cruising the websites looking for the best removal options. Commonly seen in the legs, they draw the eye and frustrate those who must live with them. They stick out prominently, can be seen clearly through the skin and must not be knocked, despite their unwieldy nature, as that may cause those who have them even more discomfort.

They occur when vein walls, which have been stretched due to a loss of elasticity, weaken. They weaken because the valves at either end of the vein struggle to control the blood flow here. The valves should seal a vein in one direction so blood cannot flow backwards. When the valves stop working properly, then the blood begins flowing in all directions and the vein becomes enlarged.

If you’re looking to have your varicose veins removed, L’Atelier Aesthetics can help. We have an expert team of experienced doctors and practitioners who are waiting to talk to you further and examine the veins that need attention. We also fully appreciate that your desire to remove them may be urgent. For that reason, we will try our best to fit you in for a consultation as quickly as possible.

Why do they occur?

Some people are more prone to varicose veins than others. Women are more susceptible and vein problems become more likely the older you get. If you’re overweight, have a family history of them, or your job involves you standing up for long periods of time, you’re at a higher risk. Then there are those who are simply unlucky. Whatever has caused them, we can provide relief.

How L’Atelier treats varicose veins

Here at L’Atelier Aesthetics, Dr Brennand, our resident doctor and vein expert, uses radio therapy ablation to remove varicose veins. This is a non-invasive procedure that involves less downtime than a full-on surgical procedure.

In the first instance, you’ll visit Dr Brennand for your consultation. This will be an opportunity for your veins to be assessed via an ultrasound. You will then have the vein removal procedure explained to you and be given the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

When you visit us for your actual appointment, a wavelength of radio frequency energy will be transmitted into the offending varicose vein. This will cause heat. The skin fibres of the vein wall will collapse and the vein will be sealed preventing more blood from flowing through it. Eventually the vein will collapse and its contents removed by your immune system. The blood will have been redirected to use healthier veins as it travels around your body.

Aftercare advice

Following the treatment, Dr Brennand will advise you on how to take care of your leg. Your leg may be vulnerable and sensitive, so it’s important to follow the guidelines provided. This will ensure a speedy recovery. Ready to face a future with more attractive, less uncomfortable legs? Then please give us a call, or send us an email to book your consultation today.
