Lip Fillers: There Are No Stupid Questions

Lip Fillers: There Are No Stupid Questions

Even those who regularly try out facial aesthetic treatments can have questions about their treatment – and that’s the case even for common, long-standing treatments such as lip fillers.

In this post, the experts at our Harley Street skin clinic have put together a list of Q&A regarding our lip fillers treatment. From what they really feel like, to whether your lips can burst, there really are no stupid questions!

1 – What’s in lip fillers and are they safe?

Yes, they’re a safe procedure and ours contain hyaluronic acid, which can even be dissolved. This substance is found naturally in the body, so there’s less chance of rejection or reactions.

2 – Do lip fillers hurt?

A numbing agent makes the treatment more comfortable, but you may experience tenderness, redness or swelling in the early days following your treatment.

3 – Could my lips burst?

There have been some ‘horror stories’ in the press where lip filler treatment has gone wrong, or too much has been placed, leading to the lips ‘bursting’, This is extremely rare and usually down to a lack of experience or qualifications at the clinic.

4 – Can you feel the filler inside your lips?

Yes, but they should still feel natural – and it won’t affect things like kissing, talking or eating. The lip filler is injected deeply into the lip tissue, but can be massaged gently to ensure it sits in the right spot (we recommend this is done by your practitioner). You can always book in with us for a follow-up if you’d like peace of mind following treatment, or are considering a top-up.

5 – How much does swelling affect results?

Though you’ll notice an immediate difference after treatment, swelling can occur, which means you’ll often need to wait a couple of weeks to see the full transformation.

6 – How often do I need treatment?

Lip fillers can last up to 18 months, but you may need top-ups, and will need future injections to maintain their appearance. The material used – hyaluronidase – is safely broken down and absorbed by the body over time.

7 – What can go wrong with lip fillers?

Lumps and bumps, problems with symmetry or an overfilled appearance can all occur, but again this is generally when the clinic or practitioner is inexperienced. Dissolving lip fillers can be an option in these cases.
