What can our Harley Street-based PRP injections do for you?

L’Atelier Aesthetics - London Aesthetic Clinic

PRP therapy stands for platelet rich plasma therapy. It’s an effective and simple treatment for removing surface skin blemishes, such as acne, age spots and wrinkles. If you’re troubled by clogged pores, spots and pimples, or increasingly prominent signs of ageing such as facial lines and age spots, this could be the treatment that helps you reclaim a more youthful appearance.

What causes skin blemishes?

Acne is the result of clogged pores, but can be triggered by hormones, stress or a poor diet. Age spots are the result of your body producing too much melanin, usually as a response to over-exposure to the sun. The melanin creates a shield on the skin to protect it, but this ‘shield’ is unsightly and given that age spots become prominent later in life, also give away your advancing years.

Wrinkles and fine lines on the face are the result of weak collagen production. Our collagen levels tends to drop off a bit towards the end of our 20s. When they do, our skin isn’t as elastic as it once was. After making repeated expressions, the skin on our faces doesn’t snap back into position in the same way it used to. The result of this is wrinkles. What all of these skin blemishes have in common is that they occur only on the surface layers of our skin. This is where PRP injections can make a difference.

How do PRP injections from our Harley Street clinic work?

During this procedure, a small amount of blood will be withdrawn from you. This blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the various components; the platelets, serum and blood cells, before being re-administered. This action should stimulate the growth factors in the platelets, as well as trigger the body’s natural repair system.

Once the body’s natural repair system has been triggered, a number of things happen to counteract the false wound that the body has detected. Your collagen levels will be increased, as will your cell turnover rate. New skin tissue will be created to replace what the body perceives to be damage. As a result, in the key areas where new, fresher, unblemished skin is required, new skin will be created, leading to you hopefully looking healthier, revitalised and younger.
