Ever had a friend try and describe PRP therapy to you? It’s probably not a good idea to get your information about this treatment from a nonprofessional, because it will most likely just sound weird! The treatment involves withdrawing blood from your face or body, the blood being spun in a centrifuge and then being re injected into a targeted area. If your friend told you this, wouldn’t you think that sounded odd?
As crazy as it may sound, plenty of research has been done into how effective this procedure is for healing injured skin and providing a rejuvenating effect. When you book your consultation with us here in Mayfair, we’ll thoroughly go over the individual steps of the treatment and try to answer any questions you may have about it, but for now, let us provide you with an overview.
On the day of your PRP therapy appointment, you’ll be made to feel welcome in our modern Harley Street based practice rooms. Marks will be made on the skin, to indicate the problem skin that’s going to be refreshed and the area will be thoroughly cleansed. If you’d like to have a local anaesthetic, that can be administered prior to the treatment.
The blood will be taken out of your arm, just as it would be in a blood test. The withdrawn blood is then spun in the centrifuge for up to 10 minutes to isolate the platelet rich plasma from the rest of the blood. This PRP is then re-injected into your face, where your practitioner made the marks.
Results are not immediate. You will need to wait for collagen levels and growth factors to increase before results can be seen and it’s likely you’ll need several sessions to produce significant results.
What can PRP therapy treat?
PRP can treat a number of age related skin problems along with other skin concerns. Fine lines around the eyes and mouth, or in the jaw and neck region can be improved and made to look less crepey. It can also give you a more even skin contour under your eyes and reduce acne scarring or sun damage.
If you’d like to visit us for a consultation at our Mayfair practice, please give us a call to book your appointment. Our experienced practitioners will be able to guide you through the process and answer any queries you may have.
